Spaggiari & Tyler Residence Denmark

The design of the Spaggiari and Tyler residence was conceived as a direct response to its forest setting. The building’s elevation puts the occupants among the greenery of the surrounding Karri trees, taking advantage of impressive mountain views. The cantilevered open-plan living space evokes the feeling of living among the tree canopies and specific windows have been designed to frame different aspects of the forest.
Passive solar design principles are used throughout the house, with extensive glazing to the north allowing the sun to heat an internal stone-clad wall in winter, while in summer, louvered sunshades keep the building cool.
Because the property’s bush site has a particularly high level of bushfire threat, the house’s construction materials and methods were carefully chosen to reduce the impact of a bushfire on the building.
